Bring us something worth noticing.
Good Hours publishes thoughtful writing about the things that shape everyday life: the places we return to, the objects we live with, the rituals we keep, the music we listen to, the ways we travel, and the small details that change how a day feels.
We are open to original contributions from writers with a clear idea, a distinctive point of view, and something genuinely useful or interesting to say.
What belongs in Good Hours?
A Good Hours story usually begins with something recognizable and looks at it a little more closely.
- Why does a familiar place feel different at a certain time of day?
- What makes a hotel, café, room or city memorable?
- Why do certain songs belong to particular moments?
- How do beauty and personal rituals affect the way we experience a day?
- What makes ordinary routines surprisingly satisfying?
- What are we losing — or gaining — as everyday habits change?
You do not need to answer one of those questions. They simply illustrate the kind of curiosity behind Good Hours.
Our sections
We consider contributions for Living, Beauty, Travel, Wellbeing, Music and Culture.
The subject matters less than the angle. A broad article about “how to make your home cozy” is unlikely to interest us. A thoughtful piece about why some rooms immediately make people want to stay might.
What we’re looking for
- A clear premise. The story should know what question it is exploring.
- Original observation. Tell us something beyond what appears in the first page of search results.
- A human voice. We want writing that sounds like somebody noticed, considered and wrote it.
- Useful context. Factual claims should be supported by reliable sources where appropriate.
- Restraint. A good idea does not become better because it has been stretched to 2,000 words.
What we’re not looking for
- Articles written primarily to obtain a backlink
- Sponsored or promotional copy presented as editorial
- Generic SEO articles built around a keyword
- Product or service promotion disguised as advice
- Affiliate-driven content
- Unsubstantiated health or medical claims
- Previously published articles
- Articles generated, rewritten or substantially composed by generative AI
A note about AI
Good Hours exists because human observation still matters.
Submitted articles must therefore be written by the contributor. We do not accept articles generated, rewritten, expanded or substantially composed using generative AI.
We are interested in your judgment, your curiosity and your way of seeing the subject — including the small imperfections that make writing recognizably human.
Submission requirements
- Original: The article must not have been published elsewhere.
- Human-written: The submitted writing must be your own work.
- Non-commercial: Contributions must serve readers rather than a client, company or SEO campaign.
- Focused: Most Good Hours features should explore one strong idea rather than trying to cover an entire subject.
- Properly sourced: Include reliable sources for factual claims where they are needed.
- Rights-cleared: Only provide photographs or artwork you own or have permission to publish.
About links
Links should exist because they help the reader.
Relevant sources and genuinely useful references are welcome. Commercial links, affiliate links, client links and links inserted primarily for search-engine value are not.
Contributors may include one personal website or social profile with their contributor bio.
What happens after you submit?
Every submission is considered for editorial fit, originality and quality. Submission does not guarantee publication.
If we decide to publish your article, it may be edited for clarity, grammar, structure, factual accuracy, house style and presentation. Headlines, excerpts and formatting may also be adjusted to fit Good Hours.
Your voice should remain yours. Editing should make a good piece clearer, not turn it into something it was never meant to be.
Ready to contribute?
Send us a finished article rather than a generic guest-post pitch. Reading the complete piece is the best way for us to decide whether it belongs in Good Hours.
There is no fee to submit, and publication is always editorially selected.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to pitch first?
No. For contributor submissions, we prefer to see a finished article.
How long should my article be?
There is no magic word count. Most features will naturally fall somewhere around 800–1,500 words, but we would rather publish a concise 900-word article with a strong idea than a padded 1,500-word one.
Can I include links?
Yes, when they genuinely support the story. Commercial, affiliate, client and backlink-placement links are not accepted.
Can I submit something published elsewhere?
No. Contributor articles must be original and unpublished when submitted.
Do you accept AI-written articles?
No. Articles generated, rewritten, expanded or substantially composed using generative AI are not accepted.
Does submitting guarantee publication?
No. Good Hours is deliberately selective, and every contribution must fit the publication editorially.
Will my article be edited?
Yes, where necessary. We may edit for clarity, structure, grammar, accuracy, house style and presentation while preserving the contributor’s central idea and voice.
PR, music and commercial enquiries
The contributor route is for independent editorial submissions. It is not the right route for press releases, music promotion, brand campaigns, sponsored articles or commercial placement requests.
