GOOD HOURS

For the hours that make a life.

Write For Good Hours

Write for Good Hours

Bring us something worth noticing.

Good Hours publishes thoughtful writing about the things that shape everyday life: the places we return to, the objects we live with, the rituals we keep, the music we listen to, the ways we travel and the small details that change how a day feels.

01 / Original

Bring your own idea.

We are looking for original observation rather than familiar subjects repackaged for search.

02 / Human

Sound like a person.

Good Hours values judgment, curiosity and writing with a recognizable point of view.

03 / Selective

Publication is editorial.

There is no fee to submit, and sending an article does not guarantee publication.

01 / What belongs here

Start with something recognizable. Then look closer.

A Good Hours story usually has a clear idea beneath the subject. These are examples of the kind of curiosity we mean, not assignments you need to follow.

01

Why does a familiar place feel different at a certain time of day?

02

What makes a hotel, café, room or city memorable?

03

Why do certain songs belong to particular moments?

04

How do beauty and personal rituals affect the way we experience a day?

05

What makes ordinary routines surprisingly satisfying?

06

What are we losing — or gaining — as everyday habits change?

02 / Our sections

The angle matters more than the label.

We consider contributions across all six Good Hours sections. A broad topic is rarely enough; we are interested in the particular observation or question inside it.

01

Living

Homes, objects, interiors, design and the ordinary rituals of domestic life.

02

Beauty

Beauty, fragrance, hair, skincare and the personal routines around them.

03

Travel

Places, cities, hotels, movement and what changes when we go somewhere else.

04

Wellbeing

Attention, rest, routines and practical ways people experience everyday wellbeing.

05

Music

Listening, memory, artists, recordings, live music and the culture around sound.

06

Culture

Habits, ideas, books, film, technology and the ways contemporary life is changing.

03 / What we’re looking for

A strong piece knows why it exists.

01

A clear premise

The story should know what question, idea or observation it is exploring.

02

Original observation

Bring something beyond what appears on the first page of search results.

03

A human voice

We want writing that sounds like somebody noticed, considered and wrote it.

04

Useful context

Factual claims should be supported by reliable sources where appropriate.

05

Restraint

A good idea does not become stronger simply because it has been stretched to fill more words.

06

Editorial fit

The piece should feel at home beside the stories already published by Good Hours.

04 / A note about AI

Good Hours exists because human observation still matters.

Submitted articles must be written by the contributor. We do not accept articles generated, rewritten, expanded or substantially composed using generative AI.

We are interested in your judgment, your curiosity and your way of seeing the subject — including the small imperfections that make writing recognizably human.

05 / Not for Good Hours

This is not a guest-post marketplace.

Contributor submissions exist for independent editorial work, not commercial placement or search-engine campaigns.

  • Articles written primarily to obtain a backlink
  • Sponsored or promotional copy presented as editorial
  • Generic SEO articles built around a keyword
  • Product or service promotion disguised as advice
  • Affiliate-driven content
  • Unsubstantiated health or medical claims
  • Previously published articles
  • Articles generated, rewritten or substantially composed by generative AI

06 / Submission requirements

Before you send it.

01

Original

The article must not have been published elsewhere.

02

Human-written

The submitted writing must be your own work.

03

Non-commercial

The contribution must serve readers rather than a client, company, affiliate programme or SEO campaign.

04

Focused

Most Good Hours features should explore one strong idea rather than attempt to cover an entire subject.

05

Properly sourced

Include reliable sources for factual claims where they are needed.

06

Rights-cleared

Only provide photographs or artwork you own or have permission to publish.

07 / About links

Links should help the reader.

Relevant sources and genuinely useful references are welcome.

Commercial links, affiliate links, client links and links inserted primarily for search-engine value are not accepted.

Contributors may include one personal website or social profile with their contributor bio.

08 / What happens next

Editing should clarify, not erase.

Every submission is considered for editorial fit, originality and quality. Submission does not guarantee publication.

If we decide to publish your article, it may be edited for clarity, grammar, structure, factual accuracy, house style and presentation. Headlines, excerpts and formatting may also be adjusted to fit Good Hours.

Your voice should remain yours. Editing should make a good piece clearer, not turn it into something it was never meant to be.

09 / Submit your work

Send the finished piece.

For contributor submissions, we prefer a completed article rather than a generic guest-post pitch. Reading the full piece is the best way for us to decide whether it belongs in Good Hours.

Please include your name, the section you believe it belongs in and the information requested below. Because Good Hours is independently operated, we may not be able to respond individually to every submission.

There is no fee to submit, and publication is always editorially selected.

Write for Good Hours

Bring us a story worth spending time with.

Good Hours is an independent lifestyle and culture magazine interested in distinctive ideas, clear points of view and writing that notices the details of how people live. We welcome thoughtful pitches and strong finished work across Living, Beauty, Travel, Wellbeing, Music and Culture.

Tell us what the story is, why it matters now and why you are the right person to write it. A good submission can be concise; the idea and the voice matter more than a long proposal.

What fits

Original, well-observed work with a clear angle: useful evergreen stories, reported or cultural pieces, personal essays with wider relevance, and ideas rooted in real experience or expertise.

Keep in mind

Send original work that is not already published elsewhere. Avoid generic SEO copy, undisclosed commercial material, link-building pitches and articles written mainly to promote a product, company or service.

What to include

For a pitch, a focused outline is enough. For a finished story, paste the complete draft. Add useful source or portfolio links and one supporting JPG, PNG, WebP or PDF only when it helps us review the work.

10 / Contributor FAQ

A few things worth knowing before you submit.

Do I need to pitch first?

No. For contributor submissions, we prefer to see a finished article.

How long should my article be?

There is no magic word count. Most features will naturally fall somewhere around 800–1,500 words, but we would rather publish a concise 900-word article with a strong idea than a padded 1,500-word one.

Can I include links?

Yes, when they genuinely support the story. Commercial, affiliate, client and backlink-placement links are not accepted.

Can I submit something published elsewhere?

No. Contributor articles must be original and unpublished when submitted.

Do you accept AI-written articles?

No. Articles generated, rewritten, expanded or substantially composed using generative AI are not accepted.

Does submitting guarantee publication?

No. Good Hours is deliberately selective, and every contribution must fit the publication editorially.

Will my article be edited?

Yes, where necessary. We may edit for clarity, structure, grammar, accuracy, house style and presentation while preserving the contributor’s central idea and voice.

Wrong route?

PR and commercial work belong elsewhere.

The contributor route is for independent editorial submissions. It is not the right route for press releases, music promotion, brand campaigns, sponsored articles or commercial placement requests.
